Hi
I have some advice about insurance for this scooter. I am 39 years old and used Trade Inport's advice and contacted Lexham. They gave me three options. One for fully comp. One for third party fire and theft and the last for third party only. This is a £500 bike and I believe third party is the best viable option. This is because if you choose fully comp or added fire and theft to third party you will have to pay the first £350 of the claim !! I was qoated £175 for the additiona fire and theft cover to third party. At the end I went for third party only at £99 ! Work out the maths ! Hope this helps

I have recently done 300kms on the 11 (retro) model and changed the oil and snipped the pink wire. All has been going well until this morning when after riding for about 5 minutes it seemed the petrol was intermittently not getting through (it lost power then started then lost power etc...). Finally it stalled and would not re-start even with the kickstart (which until now has solved all on starting problems).

Any ideas?

The vacuum-administered fuel-cock is a little bit unreliable. First of all, the vacuum-hose must be correctly connected on both ends (obviously) and free from cracks etc.

Even so the fuel-cock itself might have gone sour. I understand from talking to peolpe that it is often being replaced on warranty even at low mileage vehicles. So called "quality-brands" are no exception.

1. Check the vacuum-line between the manifold and the fuel-cock as depicted above.
2. Pull the fuel-line away from the carb and check if petrol is pouring when you push the kick-starter repeatedly.

Should the vacuum-line be OK (assuming there is petrol in the tank) and there still is no petrol distributed to the carb, chances are the fuel-cock have "resigned".

Other common causes are; clogged petrol-filter or clogged air-vent on the petrol filler cap.

Good luck.

Hi Ben

You could try checking your spark plug that it has not got heavy deposits of dust on it and that it was screwed in properly. This may not be the cause. I do fear that any modification to de restrict these bikes is of detriment to their reliability . We all bought them knowing they would never go very fast so tweeking them to give us an exra 15 mph will only strain the engine more and reduce the life of the engine due to being allowed to reach maximum revs !

I can only think that other to the spark plug it coul be something which has resulted from snipping the wire. This after all has been the only change since. You could also check that the side stand safety switch cut out is working ok too ?

Just a general advice to all is that if you use a good semi or fully synthetic motor cycle engine oil frequently you will prolong the life of the engine. Doing this at quicker intervals that the manual states will help even more. Avoid doing this oil change in a dusty environment and if outside not to do it on a windy day ! The bike does not have an oil filter so please be carefull about getting contamination into the sump !

Hope this helps a little and good luck !

ben

i have had same prob recently - first thing wrong was petrol pouring constantly instead of pulsing - ie vacuum diaphragm on fuel pump had stuck 'open' -

this however did not prove to be whole cause - ht lead had snapped inside plug lead socket - finished up getting replacement coil and lead complete unit with plug socket attatched - this touch wood has cured probs !

i understand these bikes are honda based (in engine at least) - has anyone been to a honda dealer and asked how much of the bikes components are recognised !?

cheers - johnny

The pipe on the exhaust is part of the catalytic converter system.
This is a 4 stroke engine and there is nothing you can do to the exhaust to make it go faster. Your mates on 2 strokes can maybe take out the baffles /use a bigger pipe and get more power but that doesn't work on a 4 stroke.

PS Maybe the admin should post something about all this 'derestricting' talk.

If you alter the engine/carb/gearbod/drive in any way you will invalidate your eec compliance / invalidate your insurance / find your self up in court for emmisions violations etc.

Just so you will all be aware of this .

Thanks. I think these scoots are good fun and its great to have some Tw** in a shiny bmw shaking his head at you and then your way ahead of of the Kn** at the other end of town!

Hi Orinoco

Have you checked your lead to the plug ? Another thing to check is that the bike is properly earthed. Check the earthing connection too.

The solution to the starting prob. maybe very simple.....

Make sure the key is fully engaged as if not the switch inside is open and it wont do anything!!

I know it seems obvious but we took one apart and kicked it about etc to no avail then found the last 'click' on the key barrel was slightly dodgy and you just had to make sure it was turned right round!

Hope that helps

We had tried everthing you did the mecanic said it was to do with the leg that comes down, he has disconected it now and is running great.took 6 weeks to get to the bottom of it. If you don't get to the bottom of yours get back to me and i will ask him for more detail.Good Luck Linda.

just thought i would be honest here and tell u all the good and bad points about this scooter
1.very slow acceleration
2.very hard 2 derestrict
3.top speed most people will get their biotians is 40mph
personally i think these bikes are a load of crap ive got 1 my self and im selling it ive bought a piaggio zip and i didn't hav 2 fanny about with all this brass screw crap and everything it was just simple and now it does 65 mph which is betta then any of these 4 stroke scooters.
my advice is dont buy 1 of these 4 stroke scooters not worth the money and the hastle

I think most of the stating problems i s dou to miserable instructions (here they are):
You can't have any of the stans down and you must press the right braking handle, all for security measures!
If the electric start doesn't function it might be that the two electric connections to the braking handle are loose (I had that experience)
Good luck!
