I have a Mercury 800. The engine runs fine but the gearbox has siezed up and has cracked the housing just forward of the prop. Do you know where I can get an affordable replacement gearbox and lower section?

I inherited a 1975 Evinrude 25 on the back of a decent Dejon 14. I'm told the engine needs @£200 worth of work on the electrics with no guarantees that this will result in an engine that runs reliably. It keeps cutting out apparently. It's a 'bitser', ie has got canabalised bits from other engines. Any idea on the history of these engines? Am I better in putting the £200 towards a newer second hand engine at the £650 mark? Sorry, but can't be more specific than this - not much help - just trying to share a problem! Steve.

We have an Evinrud Big twin 40. I have been rebuilding the gearbox. I have been able to secure all the parts excep the gearbox oil seal. Does anyone out there have any Idea where I can get one.

Try Mitchell Outboard Services in Glasgow. They got me all sorts of bits for my Evinrude. Very helpful and reliable. Will post out stuff and takes credit cards.
