Sorry to say Chamb you have a problem with both? the switch is faulty and won't turn the module on, secondly the timer circuit on the module has reduced to nought seconds so that will need a replacement as well. The switch is £18 and the module £63, if you send the switch with the cheque I will return it with a module and your old module then comes back in the same box. My address is on the website.

Yes it looks like you have Colin although not with the switch only the module.
Interesting though I don't know of a 174'T'??...only 'E's and they are 94 which should be outside the range of this problem which only effects 1992 burner modules.

Strange one this Roy if both have packed up at the same time, the only common denominator I can think of is a water leak which can effect both but for different reasons??.

Thanks for your 'simple solutioin' suggestion. The previous owner was a 'fiddler' so I looked for evidence of panels being removed. Found one in the wardrobe. Behind the panel someone had cut into the main +ve feed and not re-made the connection properly. Just need to refit the water heater now, then I may be back with more questions. Cheers Richard.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the reply, looking back through the forum you gave Richards some information on how to service the burner module. I throught I would start there. I have taken the burner module out and it appears to be fine. I have opened the black box with the PCB, I have checked the quick blow fuse and that is fine. The is a small amount of rust on the burner case. I have also take the meltable fuse out and that is starting to brake down so I will replace this. I assume it is a good idea to flush out the tank as I can see what looks like the melted wax near the drain hole.

The yellow light is to suggest low voltage although on the Cascade it only works after the voltage drops very low and way lower than the 10.5 volts minimum required for the heater to work.
You say it is fine on hookup and I assume you mean on gas, so it looks like the on-board 12 volt battery charger is working OK?. This would leave the condition of the battery as the likely cause, how did the lights work while the water heater would not??.
1993 is one of those heaters that can have this problem caused by damaged electronics in the control switch and or the gas burner module, but best to check the battery and wiring first including the fuse holders in the control switch grip both ends of each fuse.

You won't find any wax? what you are seeing is limescale that has flaked off the internal paint finish..sometimes in the South East about a hand full. The year will suggest just what is wrong with the module but in most cases it will need a replacement. As for the electric tripping out, is it the MCB or RCD that is tripping

Hi Gary,

The year of the camper R reg ( 1998 ) and it is the RCD that is tripping. I think it is the orgional burner module.

Hi all, Had a very strange one today, some thing i have never come across before. Every thing in the caravan worked perfectly including the cascade rapide in a 2000 swift. But when the waterheater was switched off the yellow and red neons glowed a little. The person did not want it investiged as every thing worked ok. But this leaves me very corious as to what it was. First thought was that it may be some thing to do with the negative wiring. Any ideas?

Andy

Hi Andy, could well be an earth fault The one doubt I have is it being a 2000 van...late 99 early 2000 is not the best vintage as far as modules are concerned...could even be a trauma recon..arghhhh

Norman, The wiring is straight though, 1to1, 2to2 etc. The plug is 5 pin and the socket 7 pin, if you use a 7 pin plug then ignor pins 1 and 7.
You can buy a standard 'A' type 5 pin 'Din' lead from the likes of Maplins that will do the job...they are only a couple of quid.

Hi Dennis, your van will be 1992 and the problem sounds as though it is the same as 'Chamb's and Colin's above, my only doubt is water has got in the black box?. If drying it out does not work and I doubt it will...it's a replacement burner module I'm afraid.
