Both the hoses sheared off my Cascade 2 water heater on my 1991 Elddis. I have successfully replaced the plastic bits and reconnected the two hoses. Water runs freely from all taps and no leaks. The green light comes on but the water does not heat up. Previously the system worked well. Any suggestions?

Hi Gary, My Cascade 2 unit failed to work, with no ignition occuring when switched on. After changing the burner unit still nothing happens although the Green light comes on and stays on. The fuses in the control box are both OK although one had previously blown. Do I need a new control unit?

Now sorted! It turned out to be air in the gas line. One of those solutions which is obvious afterwards. We disconnected gas and then reconnected and shortly after hot water flowed. Many thanks to Gary for his time and advice.

Steve, can you ring me, (yes I know the phones permanently engaged), but it does seem your control switch is at fault and want to get it sorted quickly for you

Blockage between the tank inlet (bottom left from inside the van) to the outlet (bottom centre of the tank).......
Has anyone a fix?

I have recently bought a 1995 caravan with a Carver 3000s heater fitted. The unit has not been run on Gas for some years, the previous owner using the electric fan master unit. My initial problem is that the gas contol knob shaft is not connected to the shaft coming out of the spark generator. The knob shaft has a flat machined on it the shaft from the spark generator has a quarter segment cut away. manuals I have seen would indicate this system requires a coupler as shown on the 2000 series. Can anyone tell me if this coupler is available or what is its construction or dimensions. Thanks PRT

Don't panic Annie! The fire has two 1amp in-line fuses at the back, if the earth fuse is blown then you will still get the green light but nothing else so check these first. The big difference between the control switches is the water heaters temperature sensor is on the end of the white wire in the water tank, the fires is on the switch. So the water heater control switch will work the fire perfectly albeit with no temperature control so swapping them over will prove the switch is at fault or not. You could also try the fires switch on the water heater but although it should work to a degree, if indeed it's not faulty, it won't behave correctly due to two temperature sensors being connected.

On a recent trip away our Cascade 2 wouldn't stay alight, we usually had to try a few times but it always lit in the end. The local caravan shop concluded that we needed a new burner module, which was purchased at a price of £108. With the new module in place it fired up first go, ran for 15 to 20 minutes then shut down and wouldn't relight. the shop was then at a loss and would not refund any money. Now back at home all inspections have been carried out ei gas flow, electric supply but still the same thing happens. From cold it fires up immediately, stays alight for 15 to 20 mins then shuts down and won't relight. Anyone got any ideas what the hells wrong with it?

Hi, I wondered if anyone could help? I took the van away a couple of weeks ago and everything was fine (first time this summer) but when I took it at the weekend the water/carver played up. When I connected the pump it started wherring(this is a technical term for pumping!!!) But continued. When I opened the taps a very slow trickle came out, cold only. There was nothing on the hot side. I checked the crystal filter and water was not going through, I removed the filter and water clearly pumped out. Is is the filter that may be blocked? But it was ok a couple of weeks ago and I did manage to blow through it. When I switched the carver 2 heater on green light and amber light were both on. Would this have made any difference? Also I noticed a small crack in the filter housing, again would this make any difference only a small amount of water squirted out. Please help - my Dad had borrowed the van for a couple of weeks and could do with some water!!!!. Cheers Matthew

Dransfield If the amber light is on on the control unit it indicates low voltage. Is the battery fully charged, can you try it on mains electric supply? where is Garry when you need him? Brian

Heather, early box type control switches are all but extinct! recently one went on ebay for £76.95+p&p!!
The good new is I can fix them for a fraction of that providing you have one I can work on?

PRT, the 'coupler' as you call it is the 'Piezo' holder for the spark generator, like the above answer but these are extinct!. I can say if something you have seen looks similar then it will infact be the same unit, their fitted to all manual ignition Carver fires from 1994 until 2000

Raggy, apart from a battery problem, either a connection problem or low voltage, I'd say theres something wrong with your new module. I can understand your dealer being at a loss as it's a rare fault but more likely on something new rather than old. At a guess I'd say a dry joint on the pcb within the new module
