Hi Gary,
did as you suggested but at no time did the thing start to spark. I guess that it might be an engine out job.

Well we discussed what should be changed on the module and it will now probably be quite obvious that it needs changing??

I guess that'll be the fuse then. So I need to ease the whole thing forward to get at the module fuse. That shouldn't be too difficult, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

Gary,
I've got the whole shooting match on the bench and (doh! no fuses on module) tried it wired up to a battery all still dead,no spark. I think we talked about so many things I lost track of what I was meant to do, so to refresh my memory I think that you suggested to change all the trannies in the module. Sorry mate, you must be wondering what kind of nut you're trying to help here as you give a load of advice and then I forget half of it. If I don't get any joy over the next few days I am of a mind to send the thing to you for refurb. Although my background is electronics it's been a while since I've had to go to component level. one way or another speak to to you soon.
regards.

Well Barney I certainly did not say change all the trannys, but I did speak of changing one. I also said earlier, when I was not talking of a fuse!, it should be plain as the nose on your face which tranny needs changing!!

That's as good as it gets on an open forum, I'm not telling the world how to fix modules!!!

Hi
Could you please help me, I have just come back from a weekend in Wales and my Carver Cascade 2 water heater seems to be faulty. The problem is on the electric emmersion heater. The red reset button has popped out twice as soon as I turn the pump on, but before I use the pump it heats the water fine, any ideas on this problem???. The caravan is a 1994 Mardon Dalesman 390/2 if that makes any difference. Thanks for your time in this matter.

Hi,
I'm sorry if this thread has been dealt with previously, I need some help!
I have bought a La Strada Regent L with a Carver Cascade water heater, every time the water pumps are activated water pours out from the heater casing somewhere, and down the outside of the van, I cannot see any cracks either from the burner side or from the reservoir side, I've had the reservoir off and made sure the O ring is seated. Is all lost?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Simon

Carver Cascade MkII
Hi All
You are perhaps tired of this question but I have searched the forum and can not find an answer for my specific problem. With water running and gas turned on when I switch the water heater on both Green ad Red lights come on (no delay between) and no clicking or other sounds are heard to indicate attempted ignigtion. Needless to say the water does not heat up. Have tried, with the same results, on different occassions. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

Just got a 1992 Swift Rapide caravan, and the burner module was dead.
Swapped it out no problems (thanks to all the help available here!) and see the faulty burner has a 1992 sticker on it - is it worth getting it refurbished?

Next question is a water leak. Standing outside the van, with the plastic outer cover off the unit, I can see the burner I've just replaced at the bottom, to the left of it a drain plug with a slot in it (for draining the system down at the end of the season?) but top left there's another plastic lump that comes out, seems to have a valve on the end of it. When I press the valve I get water (which appears to be how its supposed to work, though I've no idea why) but water is weeping from where this plastic bolts into the back metal plate.

What is this plastic thing for, should I replace it, and any special tips on refitting it so it doesn't leak?

Many thanks

Nige

Hi, I have just fitted a 2nd hand Cascade 2 water heater to the caravan I am rebuilding. All is fine except it is leaking from the drain plug. The plug has a cross head, not a slot like the ones in my local caravan dealers. I'm told they changed in 1987. Will the new type plug fit my heater? Can I get a replacement old type plug anywhere? Do the "O" rings they sell for the new type fit the old type?

Any help appreciated

Cheers,

Steve

Simon, it's leaking from somewhere? outside it's either, the drain bung, the 'quick drain valve' directly above the drain bung, or, the 'fusible plug' which is set in the fins above the burner.

Whammeller, yes it's common and means you have a 92 van and the burner module is faulty, solution is a replacement either serviced exchange from me or a new one

Steve, no the new type bung is smaller and does not fit, yes the 'O' rings the same size, (18x2.5mm), and yes I've got one genuine pre June 87 drain bung still in it's original wrapping!

I've also got lots of non-genuine but better pre 87 drain bungs?!

Gary, thanks I guessed you would probably have the answer as always!

How do I go about getting a couple of the "better" pre 87 bungs from you?

Steve

Hi Gary
I have a 1995 Elddis Elf which I bought second hand in January. The Mk 1 Fanmaster worked fine during a 4 week holiday at Easter but recently refused to blow hot air on electric on either slow or auto settings. The fan blows slow or fast respectively but with no heat. Looking at previous discussions it seem to point to the over-heat tripper, although I don't know why it may have tripped. This model has no reset switch so I've removed the Fanmaster but am now stuck as I don't know how to reset it. Is it simple to reset or do I need to take it to you? Also, how do I prevent this happening again as it will be inconvenient to remove the unit each time, if it happens regularly? Can a reset switch be retro-fitted?
Regards
Rob

Personal message of thanks,
your posts on this forum have proved invaluable in sorting out a chain of problems on my Cascade 2. We are the very proud owners of a preloved Swift Capri, fitted with a Cascade 2 burner that has not given one moments trouble from the day we bought it. The water output from the hot tap started to diminish, until just a trickle remained. Drastic measures were taken after reading the board.

A full strip down later we find a huge block of limescale almost blocking the orafice from the inlet chamber to the main cylinder. This was removed and the unit rebuilt using new o rings. The down side of this bit, is it was absolutely chucking it down when I reassembled it and on giving it back its gas and refitting the fuse, it refused to light. The flow was returned to its former glory, but no heat to warm our hearts, or the water.

The module was removed and placed in the airing cupboard overnight. Tonight I refitted it, after remaking one of the screws, as the original decided to commit harakiri down a drain, when I removed it in the rain.

The short story is, it fired up first time. Totally awesome, lashings of hot water and pressure enought to run the shower supurbly.

I do have an engineering background, but it must be said, that without the first hand knowledge of Garry et al, I would not have delved in so comfortably to very murky waters. Our thanks to you all for your input.

We also had the "bakup" knowledge that Garry was just a phonecall away should all our efforts have come to "nort"

DE lighted and relighted. Dev n Jan, Barnstaple, North Devon

Rob, 95 Fanmaster's used a 'thermal fuse' which when blown requires it to be replaced with a reset switch kit, this I can supply.
However, the problem is why did it overheat? normally this is because all the vents are shut which prevents enough air passing over the elements, in your case though it's almost certainly because of it's age.

The real problem is it's 13yrs old and needs a complete overhaul to bring it back to full working order, I can also do this for you or supply the parts and you can contact me direct for details.

I have noticed that water is leaking from the external cowling of my cascade 2 water heater. On removing the cowling, I found that the water pressure release valve had become brittle and snapped off. Can anyone tell me a quick way of removing the plastic thread that remains in the body of ther heater please.
cheers
