Just bought a 14 years old Elddis Hurricane GT caravan 'as seen'. Everything inside is working but can't get any hot water yet. Have bought, off Preloved, an instruction book for the Carver Cascade 2 water heater and hope to cure the airlock or whatever. But it's the cold water system I'm concerned about. When the cold water tap is turned on a mass of what looks like coffee grains pour out. They clear away after a few seconds but if I shut the tap off and turn it on again the 'coffee grains' pour out again. Rubbing the 'coffee grains' between my fingers I suspect they are flakes of rust but where are they coming from and can the heater but flushed out. Can anyone help?

Hi, we have a cascade 2 i think (cylinder shaped tank) any way when you flick the switch the gas valve operates but the igniter wont fire, checked all connections and fuses, even done a bit of metering on the board. Is the module likeley to be faulty or is there any repair possible. Cheers Kieron

Ton I can help, Bob it's to late for you? the manual is free to download from my website!!

No such thing as an air lock though, the likely cause of no water from hot taps is a sticking non-return valve, this is in the water heaters cold water inlet fitting.
The black bits are charcoal from a burst water filter and could also be the cause of the return valve sticking.

Filters outside where the pump plugs in, unscrew it, pull off the clear plastic top and you can screw this back in temporarily so you can flush the system out. Clean up the white body of the filter and retain together with the felt sealing washer if you wish to put another filter in but you don't have to?.

Should you?, you can buy replacement inserts for the filter rather than a genuine whole one, these are not only cheaper but in 12yrs I've never had an insert burst on me!

Important tip, preferably use silicone grease to lubricate the filters threads and 'O' ring, Olive oil though is almost as good, other cooking oils at a pinch
Don't use Vaseline under any circumstances and be very careful not to over tighten or you'll crack the filter housing

Hello Gary, you've added another grateful fan to your long list. I wish your business was in the west of Scotland! Realised I'd boobed in buying an instruction book when I saw your website. Thanks for the useful information. Hopefully it will lead to clean water for the kettle and hot water for the face. Do you supply the Carver filter inserts you mentioned?

Well Bob I live on the edge of the Vale of Belvoir and I don't think there are many places that can match it, having said that the west of Scotland has it's appeal?

Filters I don't get involved in, partly because when I started in caravans another guy was starting? you can find him here; http://www.filtapac.co.uk/

Robbo, there's no such thing, I know I looked hard enough and paid a great deal of money to have one pcb back engineered for my own benefit. The rest I figured out the faults for myself so I can fix them, I don't tell anyone else how to.

My answer can only be you need a serviced exchange module from me or a new one.
