Sorry nick it ain't as simple as that, the older switches did have a trimmer pot to adjust the range slightly higher or lower but not for what you hope for.Two degrees is the norm for switching on and off, any more and the temperature drop would be very noticeable and probably uncomfortable. So the real question is why is your van cooling down so fast that the switching it getting on your nerves? The probable answer is the low level ventilation is to great, this allows heated air to pass straight out the roof vents only to be replaced by cold air coming through the lower vents, the more you turn up the heating the more you speed up the process with little or no increase in temperature. Solution is to restrict low level ventilation so air moves at a slower pace, has time to heat up and stay long enough for the heater to stay off a reasonable amount of time. From the earlier 80's until 97 the floor ventilation often exceeded the roofs, while this is great for cooling in summer you've no hope of keeping warm in winter Latest ventilation regulations for a van with up to 10 square metres of floor space require 1500sqmm of low level and 14000sqmm of roof ventilation. One standard 400x400 roof light gives the required fixed roof ventilation. The low level equates to a slot just 15mm x 100mm. Any gas drop holes in the floor must stay and are discounted from the calculations but would act as backup if only one low level vent gets blocked.

Robert, fan noise is down to worn bearings and the motor should be replaced before it does further damage. I can supply a motor but I don't explain how to change it in any detail, I can though change it for you as part of a full overhaul

topdog, as I said a worn motor will cause further harm and I suspect it's now to late for you?, generally the main control board is first and this will also need replacing. Give me a ring in the week and I'll explain options and prices, numbers on website link below

We are new to caravaning & have purchased a Avondale Mayfair 02, The thing is the truma water heater on mains electric once turned on it starts up for about 10 seconds then cuts out and the red light comes on. This is also the same when being used in gas mode, has anyone any ideas ? so I can go armed with an understanding and not be stung when approaching the repair men !! or if it is simple enough we could have a go.. Thankyou

Oh Sarah, trauma water heaters are not something I care to get involved with! But I can say this, the red light after 10 seconds is the gas failing to light and nothing to do with the mains heating side, the mains uses a simple on/off switch generally to one side of the gas control switch. My first guess then and seeing as your not trying to light the gas! you have not removed the 'winter cover' from the flue outside?. This is a solid cover designed to keep the internals clean but will also through lack of oxygen prevent the boiler lighting while in place.

Hi Just found this web site tonight, what a mine of information and help. Can you help me also please. I have recently brought a 1988 swift challenger ,which has a carver water heater fitted, which is heated by gas only.It all appears to work fine, light on the switch stays green, water heats up ok, except when it fires up there's a noticeable "pop" and a blue flame out the vent. Many thanks Andy

Thanks Wyn and it's really kind of you to say so, not only that your absolutely right!1988 is perhaps the clue, it's 20 years old and suffering from poor ignition, a service might cure it or a replacement 'burner module' certainly will

Thanks Wyn and Gary for your quick replys, obviously a service is the first port of call, whats involved in that, is it something I can do? as a mechanic I am fairly competent at mechanical , but no so sure about gas related things. ps the caravan has been serviced on a regular basis by a dealer, should this have been done by them. Many thanks Andy

Difficult to call Andy, it's knowing how it should be. Got a fire in yesterday and the burner although apparently identical was the wrong one for that fire, It wasn't that obvious to me at first but if you don't know how it should be you, you can never get it right unless by luck!! So, there could be one of several distinct reasons why the Cascade burner module is not working correctly or a combination of

Lot of ideas but it boils down to a complete overhaul I would imagine! The burner or exhaust or inlet are at fault which requires the fire out of the van, while out it's worth doing the other bits which cause trouble, that way when it goes back it stays there! As a matter of fact, last SBE that 'smoked a bit' I found was caused by a mouse nest in the exhaust!! problem is smoke means lots of carbon monoxide so don't under any circumstances use it

Hiya. Put a new battery in there and its not made any difference to the problem. I would have thought though that the built in transformer from 240v to 12v would have worked.Am I correct in saying the only to cables out of the unit are the 12volt power input and the one for the control unit? What are chances of a faulty control unit vs faulty heater? Where can I get a new control unit? Could it need say a good clean, as it had been stood unused for about 2years. Remember there is no red fault light, just continuous green and yellow and no sound from the heater. Another thought, all the other gas valves in the caravan where closed when I got it, does the carver heater have its own valvue anywhere I have to open? Again I thought thought that this would trigger the red fault light. Thanks for you continued help. -Dale
