Hi,

I have recently bought a 1993 Major Sprite Super with a Carver Cascade 2GE heater. When I connect the aquaroll and switch the pump on, it stays on, keeps pumping water and water is gushing out of the bottom of the flue cowl. I have tried adjusting and replacing the pressure switch but to no avail. I have checked that the drainage bung is in and it looks fine. What should I check now?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Best Wishes

Loz

I've just had my 'new' caravan serviced for the first time. The engineer has said in his report that the Carver gas fire is burning yellow. It apparently needs a new part but I can't read his writing and he's now on holiday til next week!
I was hoping to use the caravan this weekend .. do you know if it's safe to use with a yellow flame or should I stay ont he safe side and use the halogen heater I have?
Once I get the part details, I will check with Arc Systems as reading through this thread, seems very helpful!
Thanks for any advice you can give.

NO it would be unsafe to use it in this state and it would be foolish to do so, can't say it stronger than that.

Common problem on later Carver fires is the burner, the 'gauze' on the top has a habit of coming loose or falling off! and this will cause a lazy yellow sooty flame.

However, the electrode which gives the spark sits above the pilot burner and often gives off a yellow/orange 'flare' as the otherwise purposeful looking, good, bright blue flame passes over it.
This can be misinterpreted as a bad flame by the inexperienced eye

Thank you so much Gary, appreciate your quick response.
I'll definitely use the halogen heater for the weekend then and leave the gas fire alone.
Once I get the details of what needs replacing from the engineer, I'll be in touch for some more help!!

Many thanks
Bats

I take it you mean this George?

i have a carver3600A gas fire/ heater which will not ignite.when i turn the control switch and press down no clicking just nothing. the heater is in a 1998 auto trail cheyenne has anyone got any suggestions as to what the problem may be thanks george.

The 'A' stands for Automatic electronic gnition, this is the slim grey box near the base of the fire at the side of the gas control rod.
Either it's not getting 12v from the van battery or it's faulty.
First check to make sure the voltage is there and if it is then it needs repairing and I can do that for you.

Thanks Gary,

I am about to change the fusible plug, which was the problem with the leak. Hopefully that will sort the problem, but if it blows again, then I'll know that it's more serious. Will let u know.

cheers again

Loz

I have an Abbey 520 Freestyle caravan which I purchased new in the year 2000 - It has been unused since 2001 and parked at my house in Spain - I returned to the UK recently towing the van back to use here in the UK.
All facilities and equipment in the van are working well except the Carver 5500 Turbo Fanmaster which only functions on gas - the integrated electric fan also operates but I have no electric heating available either with or without the gas operating ! No clues in the operations manuals! -Grateful for any ideas as to what might be wrong?

Fletch, yes the tank seals can be replaced if indeed it is the tank leaking, it is though more likely to be the water inlet or outlet fitting leaking.

Golfer, I would first suspect the mains plug has fell out the heater while travelling back from Spain. this is a 'kettle' type plug and plugs into the control box top right behind the heater.

Gary, thanks - you got it right first time - the plug had become loose probably on our journey - pushing it back in has given us the electric heating option again!
I would never have found this simple solution without your suggestion, as it was awkward to access and check even knowing the information - top tip many thanks again!!

Salty, this is an odd one, first then what exactly do you mean by 'fuse'

Caravans have long since used MCB's and RCD's not fuses, 6Amp or 10Amp MCB's take the place of fuses, the RCD being the earth leakage device and the wider of the two types.
The 5500 should though have a 'fused switch spur' isolation switch with a normal 10A or 13A fuse, so what is 'blowing'?
