The problem you both seem to have is very common, top left outside you have the 'quick drain valve' the problem is being plastic it cracks where it screws into the heat exchange and causes a leak.
Replacing is pretty straight forward, takes me about 5 minutes, however do it wrong and it can cost a lot of money to put right!

The new part is a few pounds and when you get it from me, I provide a help sheet to show in pictures just how it's done safely

Hi
I have just noticed water dripping from under my Carvar Cascade water heater.
It only drips when the pump is on.

Is it difficult to remove the unit from outside the van to check where the leak is comming from.

If not how do I do it please.

Thanks for any advice.
David.

First there should be no need to remove the heater to find out where the leak is coming from, however, getting it out is easy, my record for a gas/electric is 7 minutes and driving away!!...
...well it was raining!!!

Turn off gas, unscrew gas connections 17mm nut and release gas pipe, outside remove plastic flue cover and nine screws around edge of heater, count them, repeat count them!
Break seal using two broad screwdrivers and a thin piece of wood to protect paint work and give something to lever against
Once free allow to come out as far as the still connected water hoses will allow, if an electric model go inside and disconnect mains lead having first removed and safely stored the fuse from switch.
Lastly cut hoses just beyond the hot and cold inlet fittings, this gives a fresh pipe to connect later.
If semi rigid pipework then push connection fully on, now hold central collar which has moved back inside the outer main fitting in this release position, pull back and the whole fitting should slide off.

If you mean the piezo holder has broken then no I've got none left, if you actually want the piezo from inside then I have plenty of those.

To repair the holder, preferably find broken part and glue back on with two pack clear epoxy glue from Wilko's or the like, use a slim lightweight jubilee clip to strengthen the joint and glue this on as well.
It's now stronger than new and should not break again

Stan, the fanmaster control board has failed and the worn fan motor has caused it, both now need replacing.

If you contact me direct I can explain what you can do about it

Charlie, there are many many posts above on this subject, most likely reason is a blockage in the passage up into the heater.
Solution is often to back flush the blockage back into the tank

Did you clean the threads in the casting before you fitted the new NRV?
If not and it was very tight to screw in, then this can crush the fitting also jam the new NVR!!

Cheers Gary .. you are some bloke with some patience answering all these queries, i guess there would be alot of people without hot water and heat if it wasn't for this forum .. brilliant.

Will give the flush a go.

This is original message for Gary
and your reply below. Many thanks for reply I actually got it working in the end well nearly. I been on hol with van so not been able to reply.
I stripped it down Replaced resistor with 4 as not had propper size one,
Resistor blew tracks on back and solder gone. Perfect now. You was right about spiders and dirt aswell. the small air tube was blocked.
Burner looks like new the flame safety device on other side of igniter i slipped closer to the flame. it now stays alight and turns off once to temp only used a handfull of times though.it will not relight it self once hot water has been drawn off it locks out.

Also noticed on last use i was actually outside caravan the flue from it was bellowing out black smoke, the flame was yellow in colour. Any ideas please? I know it not burning right but do not know why
Thanks again Gary.

>>The resistor should be ok if it's solder connections are still sound.

Your problem is most probably something to do with the burner, either a spider has climbed inside and left some web behind to disturb the gas flow, or perhaps the burners cracked or otherwise damaged

Darrell,

Answer is you have not cleaned the burner fully, did I not say 'don't use an air line'? if you have you've just blown the obstruction further in? sorry about that!
Answer now is to soak the burner in alloy wheel cleaner for 12 hours.

As well as cleaning the inside, scrubbing the outside with a brass brush while still wet and rinsing well in water, will show any cracks in the burner, Inspect carefully around the top of the top face of the 'lolly-pop' this is where they normally are but only really open when the burner gets hot.
Infact and if I'm right, light it and listen very carefully for about 15 seconds, you should hear the flame roar get louder as the cracks open?
