Anth, this is Gary, anyone don't answer questions on this thread?!

If it's in the finned area then it will be the 'fusible plug' leaking, this shows itself as 13mm nut and can simply be unscrewed and replaced should it infact be leaking.
However if you have trouble getting one locally? get back to me

Other than that, top left above the drain bung is the favourite place to leak.

Simon, I assume you are talking about the Carver Crystal mk2 water filter housing? this is the one that cracks at the bottom of where the filter screws in.

You can still buy a new housing at a few dealers with old stock, but, the latest housing fits and gets rid of the cracking problem.

Known as the Truma 'Aquaflow' it uses a cap to seal the filter in and a different way of attaching the pump.
Truma supply a complete kit to do the conversion and you can get one from me or most dealers. It's a straight swap taking around an hour to do and in the long run it's a better deal.

i have a carvel cascade 2 water heater i have filled water tank ran the air out of the pipes by turning on the cold tap when i turned on the hot tap to fill boiler and get the air out nothing happened ???? after a few hours / days found out that the thing might be blocked . took it out of van to try and blow the blockage clear with the house water as the pressure is much better . It filled the tank when fitted to the hot outlet tube but when i put it on the cold water feed and turned the water on nothing ....... lime scale ? so how do i get rid of it ... ps its not the inlet valve .
come on gary give me some hints ........

Theres only two possibles and you appear to discount one! and thats the cold inlet non-return valve?
Why do you say this is not at fault?

The other is the narrow passage from the inlet/drain hole up to the tank, this is what gets blocked with bits of loose limescale during the last drain down. The bits then dry out and go solid, you need to work them loose.
What I find works is you need to roughly connect a hose pipe to the drain bung hole and force the blockage back into the tank.
Or perhaps as the heater is out, stand it on end and use a pint of white vinegar to dissolve it.
I would certainly try these first as stripping the tank off and removing the blockage this way proved more difficult the one and only time I tried it?!

the inlet non return valve ...................

when i fitted the hose to the feed in i undid the drain bung and water pumped out when the pump was turned off the water stopped so that tells me that the non return valve works ..........? i have now filled the tank with radiator cleaner and lime scale remover through the hot water inlet and turned it on its head so the water is saturating the inlet and outlet feeds ........gary am i right by saying there are two feeds one cold and one hot the water goes into the chamber and is then heated by gas or 240 v so once i undo the blockage in the water in inlet the water should fill tank and come out of the water outlet .......... or i am just thick .........

I would get that concoction out pronto, I've no idea what damage it will do if allowed to soak???
Radiator cleaner is probably an acid!!

Your right about how it works, the cold coming in at the bottom pushes hot out the top, it's as simple as that.

I have got a Casacde 2 GE and it does not seem to be heating up when using the electric element (left it on for 40 minutes and tank still feels cold). There is a 240v supply all the way up to the connectors on the end of the tank. Is there a check I can do (resistance check or something) to confirm if the element is broken? The overload trip (red button on the end of the tank) has not popped out.

Thanks

Can a Cascade Rapide wall switch (the one with on and off buttons and three small LEDs) be used as a replacement for a Cascade 2 wall switch (the one with the slide on/off switch and three larger LEDs)?

Are all the connections the same?

Thanks

Hi. I stumbled across this site while trying to solve a problem with my Carver Cascade 2 water heater. I'm not sure how old it is, but the caravan is 1990.
I initally had difficuly getting the heater to light, and took the cowling off to have a look. With the cowling still off, I tried again and it lit ok, although it made a loud noise when it did so, like a mini explosion! The problem I now have is that it will not turn off at the switch. It seems to just keep going until I turn the gas off. The water is heating up ok, but it is a bit worrying. Another problem is that the red light on the switch does not illuminate (and never has), although I don't think this is related.
To add to my woes, the caravan is in France - we use it as a base when doing renovation work on an old house. We are going out again in August and I would like to take the bits out to do the repairs. I was thinking of taking a new heater, but reading some of the posts I think it may well repair.
Gary, could you please help to diagnose this problem and advise on a solution? Many thanks in advance.
Glynn

trotty, you need to replace the fusible plug, it's a 13mm nut. Any problems getting a new one locally then I have exchange refurbished ones in stock.

Rob, yes you can test the element, across the element pins your looking for either 84-88 ohms for the old 630w element and around 64ohms on the 850w element.
The two thermostats need a no resistance reading across their connections.

As for changing your switch over, why?, it can be done but it's a lot of phaffing about, the easy way is to fix your old switch and I can do that cheaply enough

Rich & Sarah, Difficult to say if it was your cocktail or it was already like that? but, it now seems the heater needs removing for repair
