Hi, Please can anyone help? I think I have 2 problems with my cascade 2 water system. Firstly the cold water taps work fine but the hot taps have no water coming through them, either hot or cold. We have taken the no return valve out and had a look at it but it seems to be working ok. Also my pump is constantly running and we have checked the micro switches and they seem to be ok. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! We have had both of these problems since we bought the caravan, which is a late 80's/early 90's Fleetwood crystal. Thanks, Rachael.

Kenny, they are very easy to remove although putting it back needs to be done correctly so it's safe to use.
Floor flued are the easiest, disconnect the gas and remove a few screws from the base plate.
If it's roof flued then the flue needs disconnecting and pushing out the way but still easy enough.

Rachael, looks ok is not enough, take the non-return valve out the fitting and try it like that, if you still don't get water from the hot taps then you can then be sure it's not at fault

If then it still does not work, the probable problem is the passage up to the tank is blocked, solution to this is to use a hose pipe to back flush the blockage back into the tank.
Roughly connect the hose to the drain bung hole and with hot taps open, turn on the hose, most often this will clear the blockage, you must though have hot taps open to let air in the tank escape.

As far as your pumps concerned, are you sure the micro switches are being used? if they are then the wires from the switches will be connected up under the sink?
If not then your van uses a single pressure switch just inside where the water comes into the van and this need adjustment.
The pressure switch will be white and have an adjustment knob sticking out the top.

Hi,Just acquired a lunar delta 500/four caravan circa 1988/9 with carver cascade 2 water heater in it,despite following the instruction manual we can't get any lights to show on the unit where you switch it on (slider switch, three lights next to it) we checked both fuses inside this switch (both okay),and water running from the hot taps but cold.Is there a trip switch or a reset button anywhere or does our heater need replacing? Pardon the ignorance but we are total novices at caravaning having just taken it up this week . Thanks. (Had a long walk to the shower block, lol, please help)

Hi Gary, thanks so much for your reply! We back filled the hot water tank, as you suggested and it was full of air and black bits from a filter that the previous owner didn't replace in time!! It now works. We are still having problems with the taps but think that the whale pressure switch may need replacing as it seems so sensitive and we can't get it to be consistent. Thanks again for your help. Rachael

Tuwey, as said you must have 12v up to the switch, this is normally indicated by the green lighting as that's powered direct. However, the green LED itself can be faulty so you need to check with a multimeter at the 12v connections to be sure.
Another very common problem is the fuses and particularly the fuse holders, the fuses always blow behind the caps so look ok, they need testing, again with a multimeter.
The fuse holders must grip both end of each fuse, very often one ends loose so no voltage flows, you need to bend the bottoms in to tighten them, no use squeezing them in at the top.

Should your control switch be faulty I can fix it

Beechy, are you saying you have hot water or at least water from the hot taps?.

As far as the pressure switch is concerned,
Check you have a good fully charged battery, low voltage will change the point the switch operates, to adjust switch;

1, unscrew pressure switch adjustment until loose but not out completely
2,turn a cold tap on around 1/3 of full on.
3, screw in adjustment until switch clicks rapidly and then a little further until clicking stops and water flows smoothly, but, not to far past the clicking stopping.
The pump should now switch off within a second or two of turning of the cold tap, a little more times needed to re-pressurise the hot tank when using the hot taps

Matt, can I assume you didn't get your replacement from me then? bet that hurt £££££!

The first faults unrelated so I'd assume your replacement is faulty from new, if it is new then take it back under warranty.

Check though when you remove it, that the 'o' ring gas seal is dry, if it's wet then you have oil contamination in your gas pipes

Hi Gary, we've got water from the hot taps but not hot water yet, I am going to try the water heater today.
I will try what you have suggested with the pressure switch as I think my battery may be low from all the messing around over the last few days. Thanks again, I'll let you know how I get on.

You might want to take a note of my mobile number so you can ask a question why your their?

One more thing, a few installations used a separate on/off switch with three lights as part of a main control panel, in this case 12v to the main and generally hidden control switch is absent and it's own on/off switch does nothing.

Hi Gary. The pressure switch works fine as long as the battery charger is plugged in to the battery, so it the problem must be connected to battery power as you said.
The hot water heater is now working on gas which is good, you can't use electric on the cascade 2 can you?
Thanks again, Rachael

Hi Gary

Have found you by searching for 'Carver 18S Caravan Heater'

I have one of these heaters in my 1996 caravan, and I should like to have a new cover as the current cover is badly rusted. Do you know where I could buy one of these please?

Thanks in anticipation.

Ray

Beechy, the Cascade 2 came as a gas only or a gas/electric, if you have both heat sources? then you can use both together for faster heating time.
