Bob, I don't know what's up, it sounds like the fan control board but could just as well be connected to a combustion board fault.

Best I think to send the whole thing and let me sort it out but if you want to send just the fan board and switch go ahead

Cheers, Gary, I think it would be just as well to send the whole thing, rather than go back and forward, then I will know that it is in good hands. I don't know how you juggle all these people online and telephone and work as well. You must have a split personality or something. Wish there were more like you around these days.

Hi - My van has a Carver Cascade 2 and a Whale Diaphragm pressure operated pump. When I turn on any of the hot taps The water comes out nice and hot at really high pressure but in about 10 secs the pressure drops right off and it goes cold. If I turn off and leave a few minutes I get hot water again but the same thing happens. It feels like the heater has got plenty of hot water in it and the pump works fine on cold water without any changes in the pressure - although the pressure seems much less than when I first turn on the hot water. Be grateful for any thoughts on where to start with this one. I've removed the drain and vent plugs from the Carver just to make sure water is moving well through the tank.
jev

Jev, this is classic sticking non-return valve, the NRV is located in the plastic cold water inlet fitting to the heater and best to simply replace it.
It could also be the passage up to the heater is partially blocked which will also reduce flow.
However, if you read back a few pages you will find some tests you can do and possibly a cure.

Hi Gary
Help! I commited the cardinal sin of allowing my Carver Cascade 2GE water heater to run dry on mains electric recently (in a year 2000 Abbey Spectrum 620); the red cutout button popped out at some stage. I let the unit cool down, switched it off at the wall switch, then filled it with cold water to try again, but the reset button won't reset, neither can I get it to run on gas. Have I wrecked the whole unit, or is their a fix? I'm not too bothered if it never runs on gas, but would like mains power back! I'm reasonably handy with a tool kit, so could undertake most repairs if parts are still available.
Thanks
Dave W

Don't panic Mannering it's only a simple problem?! albeit gas and mains heating faults are totally unconnected.

You need to be handy with a multimeter to find out what's up with electric, mains power off, you need to check the connections inside the white box on the back of the tank.
There are two thermostats that should have no resistance across their connections
Between the stats are the two element pins, for your age of van your looking for 64 ohms resistance between these.

Being 2000 you will also have a double pole relay in the box, this is there to take the load off the stats and does fail and could be the problem if the above checks out ok.

New stats I have and trying to source a suitable relay at the moment.

The gas problem depends if your getting a red light or not? and being 2000, the exact date of the burner module fitted and or when it was last used? November 99 through March 2000 modules have a specific fault.

Or no red light could simply be a blown 1A internal fuse due purely to lack of use?!

Just want to say a big thank you to Gary for some advice on how to get safety valve houseing out and replace. It worked like a dream I also used a plant hand sprayer to clean the debris out of the hole, and used a 22m socket on the tow ball bolt to clean up the threads and make life easier. Thanks John

Hi Gary, many thanks for your help and advice after 50 or so cycles the Carver gas valve now opens and closes every time and we have hot water. Please keep up the good work and be assured I will be signing your praises to all my caravanning buddies.

shaedaisy, I answered the first part on the !0th, you can get a fusible plug from me, what I don't understand is, 'the green and red coming on together' and it still heating the water?

The red should come on, if there's a fault, 10 seconds after the green and the burner, if lit, should go out.
If green and red come on together at the same time then the 10 second timer is faulty and basically nothing happens?

I can do anything for you regarding the heater but this involves you removing it and sending it to me, or I can recommend Myles Povey a mobile and fairly local guy to you, 01244 534111

Hi Gary,
Have just got back from trip.
Re your reply:

"Peter, sorry to be slow replying but yes you can use it safely by switching it off, however this should not be required.
First 20psi should be fine, my pumps set at 25psi and I have no problems.

I would think your quick drain valve is dirty inside or the toggle that opens and shuts it is damaged and not allowing it to fully shut, it will be something very simple "

to reiterate----it is not leaking from the drain plug but from the valve above (only when water is heating up).
The pump is a shureflo 20psi.
Is this what you are talking about when you say "quick drain valve".

Thanks

Peter

Thanks for reading this, I have a problem with the Carver P4 blown Air Heater in my camper.

It runs fine producing lots of hot air, but when I turn it off it goes into a cycle where it blowns for a sec and then stops for 2 to 3 secs.
It does this for ever, long after the heater has cooled down, the only way to stop it is to power it down.
