I know it has been asked before and it is considered very expensive, but my dad wants to convert his existing Cascade Mk2 to a GE. I understand that the plastic box to cover the electrics is no longer available but what exactly are the parts required to do this conversion. Thanks in advance.
Thanks again for your guidance, I had a great weekend away and the heater work superbly. I have since ditched the Globestar as its way to small for our needs when not using an awning. Anyway, We now have an ABI Target 575. All the gas appliances work apart from not trying the heater as yet. The water heater is on the off side so is open to winds. I have read on here or your website that there is a danger of fire or carbon monoxide gas build up. We do have a carbon monoxide detector but you mention a cover which deflects the wind from the pilot light. Could you shed anymore light on this as we have a 14 month old girl and a 6 week old son. Untill we can reduce the risk, we will turn the water heater off over night and just use the heater in the early evening and switch off before bed to cut out gas emmisions altogether. I hope this makes sense as I'm not quite happy with the situation as you can appreciate. Also, the Globestar is for sale if anyone may be interested.
In reality though this problem could be overcome by using a standard type square plastic box that can be found on the electrical shelves at B&Q etc or an electrical wholesalers, and then adjusted to fit. Total worse case cost I think no more than £150 for the bits against the most expensive gas costs at about £1 a day for 24/7 hot water. ___________________ website: http://www.arcsystems.biz email: [Log in to view email] If you want to add your own question, just click on any 'reply to this message'
Thanks for the reply. My dad has his caravan on a seasonal pitch and does spend a lot of time there. His thinking is the electric is already paid for in his site fees. He is a retired plumber/heating engineer so the conversion should be well within his capabilites. I said I would find try and find out what information I could for him. Thanks again Leanne
The amber is to show low voltage but does not come on until the voltage drops to about 4 volts which should mean everything has packed up well before this comes on. With an earth fuse blown in the control switch it will have an effect on the water heater but nothing else. Usual cause is a bad earth somewhere and the fuse is the first thing to check...with a meter! as the wire will appear in tact. If that won't cure it check the fuse holders hold both ends of the fuse tightly. Hopefully that will cure it ___________________ website: http://www.arcsystems.biz email: [Log in to view email] If you want to add your own question, just click on any 'reply to this message'
Kev
If not what is the difference?
With that in mind as well as a new one, I can supply a new body for the earlier type if the 'innerds' of the old one are OK...and it's cheaper!! ___________________ website: http://www.arcsystems.biz email: [Log in to view email] If you want to add your own question, just click on any 'reply to this message'
I received the refurbished Carver on Monday last. Thanks for your help. Adverts Currently On Preloved - Place an ad here for free
As a matter of fact your old casting and the other have just come back from the machine shop repaired and ready for someone else. It seemed doubtful this type of damage could be repaired but amazing what can be done with a milling machine and lathe in the right hands, very pleased to have saved them. ___________________ website: http://www.arcsystems.biz email: [Log in to view email] If you want to add your own question, just click on any 'reply to this message'

Hot and cold water connections cracked where they screw into the heat exchanger casting The bolts that hold a fitted mains heating element corroded and loose. The tank itself is corroded underneath and this will show as 'scabs' on the otherwise smooth smooth surface of the tank. The tank to casting seal Outside leaks could get back inside so check behind the flue cover for a cracked pressure relief valve in the top left corner, or the fusible plug in the fins behind and in the centre the square aluminium flue. ___________________ website: http://www.arcsystems.biz email: [Log in to view email] If you want to add your own question, just click on any 'reply to this message'
Although fan functions no heat when using mains suppy Is this likely to be failed thermostat and would replacement slide control unit be a solution ? All wiring apears to be correctlly connected
There are two elements which do 'blow' but I doubt both at the same time. You can check them by disconnecting the mains and removing the wiring cover above the gas valve, it's held by a single screw and then lift it up and out. You should get about 56 ohms across each element This leaves the main control module which again do fail or the 'kettle' plug loose which is very common, a blown 10amp mains fuse or the MCB in the distribution unit has tripped. ___________________ website: http://www.arcsystems.biz email: [Log in to view email] If you want to add your own question, just click on any 'reply to this message'
This could simply be you have run out of gas or if not it gets progressive worse!?. There is a manual you can down load but I have not got the link with me, trawl back a couple of pages and you should find the link and this gives all the common reasons. ___________________ website: http://www.arcsystems.biz email: [Log in to view email] If you want to add your own question, just click on any 'reply to this message'
